The Los Angeles Poverty Department is a performance-based company working with residents living on LA’s Skid Row. The LAPD’s work is politically driven and often dramatizes real cases and stories of Skid Row residents.
- The LAPD are the only performance-based project in this research. However the company often exhibits and performs within contemporary art spaces.
- Unlike the other organisations studio facilities are not required.
- Until recently the LAPD operated without a space. They recently opened the Skid Row History Museum that will be used as a space to hold exhibitions and events and also house a library that documents Skid Row.
- The LAPD’s work is politically driven and often blurs the line between art and activism.
